Oscar De La Hoya, a legendary boxer, recently shared his thoughts on Floyd Mayweather’s post-retirement career. Mayweather, known for his undefeated record, has been participating in exhibition fights since retiring from professional boxing.
His most recent fight was a rematch with John Gotti III, which went all eight rounds without an official score. This fight followed their first bout, which ended in a chaotic brawl.
Mayweather has also fought in exhibition matches against social media star Logan Paul, former reality TV star Aaron Chalmers, and Japanese fighters Mikuru Asakura and Tenshin Nasukawa. These fights have not been well received by many boxing fans.

De La Hoya, known as “The Golden Boy,” is among those who think Mayweather should stop these exhibitions. In a recent video on Instagram, De La Hoya urged Mayweather to retire for good. He mentioned an incident during Mayweather’s fight with Gotti, where Mayweather had the referee replaced because he didn’t like being told to stop hitting behind the head. De La Hoya found this embarrassing and suggested Mayweather’s legacy was at risk.
“Floyd, you’re 50 years old. You’re a legend in this sport. But you have to stop embarrassing yourself with these exhibitions,” De La Hoya said. He added that Mayweather should focus on his legacy instead of continuing these fights.
De La Hoya also brought up Mayweather’s recent legal issues. Mayweather is currently being sued by a Miami jeweler, who claims the boxer owes him money for items purchased in 2021. De La Hoya expressed concern for Mayweather, saying that he hates seeing this happen and hopes Mayweather can turn things around.
“Floyd, I’m rooting for you,” De La Hoya said. “Let’s turn it around.”
