Teen Sprinter Breaks Usain Bolt's Record at U20 World Championships

A 16-year-old Australian sprinter named Gout Gout has broken one of Usain Bolt's records. This happened at the U20 World Championships in Peru, where Gout finished the 200m race in 20.60 seconds, beating Bolt's 2002 time of 20.61 seconds when he was also 16 years old.

Gout won a silver medal in the race, with South African Bayanda Walaza taking gold with a time of 20.54 seconds. Britain's Jake Odey-Jordan won bronze, clocking in at 20.81 seconds. Gout, born in Brisbane to South Sudanese parents, said he was relieved and excited after the race, which he had been preparing for over the last two weeks.

Gout's achievement has led to comparisons with Usain Bolt, with many seeing similarities between the two sprinters. Athletics Australia president Jane Flemming even mentioned the resemblance. Gout thought the comparison was "pretty cool."

Earlier this year, another young sprinter, Nickecoy Bramwell from Jamaica, also broke one of Bolt’s records. He set a new under-17 world record for the 400m with a time of 47.26 seconds at the Carifta Games in Grenada, beating Bolt's 22-year-old record by 0.07 seconds.

While Bramwell shines in the 400m, Gout is showing strong potential in the 100m and 200m, making him a real contender for more of Bolt's age-group records. Gout's personal bests are 10.29 seconds in the 100m and 49.01 seconds in the 400m, while Bramwell's best times are 46.75 seconds in the 400m, 21.45 seconds in the 200m, and 10.94 seconds in the 100m.

In 2003, Usain Bolt set a record of 20.40 seconds in the 200m at the World Youth Championships, a time Gout might be able to beat in the future. Bolt turned professional in 2004 and quickly became one of the world's top sprinters, despite early struggles with injuries.

As Gout and Bramwell continue to improve, the world will be watching to see if they can break more of Bolt's records and follow in his legendary footsteps.
