The FBI is looking into what they believe was an attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump at his Florida golf club on Sunday. This marks the second time in two months that someone has tried to harm him.

Trump was unharmed during the incident, his campaign confirmed. According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Secret Service agents fired shots at a man with a rifle who was hiding near the golf club’s fence around 1:30 p.m. ET. Trump was on the course, moving between holes five and six, at the time.

A Secret Service agent noticed a rifle barrel sticking out from the bushes and took action. The suspect was located and captured after fleeing the scene in a car. A witness helped track down the vehicle by taking a photo of it and its license plate.

The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was detained by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities recovered an AK-47-style rifle, two backpacks with ceramic tiles, and a GoPro camera at the scene.

This incident follows a similar attempt on Trump’s life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, two months ago.

Trump, who was golfing with a donor, reassured supporters in a fundraising email, saying, “I AM SAFE AND WELL!” President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been updated on the situation and are relieved that Trump is safe.

Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, and other allies, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, have expressed their support and noted that Trump is in good spirits.
