Audience Rejection of Joker 2 Could Impact James Gunn’s Superman Movie

The latest DC movie, Joker: Folie À Deux, has not performed well at the box office, and this could affect future DC films, including James Gunn’s upcoming Superman project.

The sequel to the original Joker movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, made less than $38 million during its opening weekend in the U.S. This is much lower than expected, and fans seem to be rejecting the film.

This poor performance is making Warner Bros. executives nervous. An insider has even called the situation "complete audience rejection."

The low earnings raise concerns about how other DC movies will do, including James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. Gunn is already facing pressure after several other DC films, like The Flash and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, failed to meet box office expectations.

Although Joker: Folie À Deux was not directly connected to Gunn’s DC Universe (DCU), its weak showing could still have a negative impact on the overall DC brand. With Gunn’s Superman film scheduled for 2025, the studio is now under even more pressure to deliver a hit.
