Family Feud Threatens Carlos Yulo’s $86,000 Olympic Prize

Carlos Yulo, the 24-year-old Filipino gymnast, made history at the Paris Olympics, winning two gold medals in men’s artistic gymnastics. His victories brought pride to the Philippines and promised him a reward of around PHP 34 million ($600,000) from both the government and private sponsors.

However, a family issue is now putting some of this prize money in jeopardy. Carlos has recently been in a dispute with his mother, Angelica.

He claimed that she took money from his 2022 World Championships earnings without his permission. Angelica defended her actions, explaining that she was worried about his future and invested the money in her name. Despite her tearful appeal to mend their relationship, Carlos has continued to question her actions, and the family rift remains.

One of Carlos’s promised prizes, $86,000 (around PHP 5 million) from politician Chavit Singson, now has a condition. Singson reportedly wants the entire Yulo family to be present to accept the cash prize, quoting a religious message: “Honor thy father and mother.” Without a family reconciliation, Carlos might lose out on this reward.

The family conflict has been ongoing, with Carlos’s parents blaming his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, for adding to the tension. The situation is still unresolved, and it’s unclear whether Carlos will try to work things out for the reward or stand his ground for his independence. Source: Essentially Sports
