When Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick decides to put LeBron James and his son Bronny James on the court together, NBA history will be made. It could happen in their season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves or later in the season.
For LeBron, who's starting his 22nd season, while his son begins his first, the exact timing doesn't matter. “Whenever it happens, it will happen," LeBron said. He’s enjoyed guiding Bronny through practices and helping him adjust to the life of a professional athlete.
LeBron, 39, took a moment to reflect on the challenges his 20-year-old son faced. In July 2023, Bronny suffered cardiac arrest during a workout while preparing for his freshman year at USC. Despite that scare, Bronny pushed through and is now on the verge of making his NBA debut.

LeBron mentioned how amazed he was when Bronny played in a college game not long after his heart surgery. "I knew nothing was going to stop him," LeBron said. Bronny’s main focus was always basketball. After surgery, his first question to doctors was, "When can I play again?"
The two Jameses played together briefly during preseason, with Bronny scoring 17 points in a game against the Golden State Warriors. Now, fans are eagerly waiting to see them officially share the court in a regular-season game.
Ken Griffey Jr. and his father, Ken Griffey Sr., who were the first father-son duo to play together in Major League Baseball, will be in attendance at the Lakers’ opener. LeBron, a fan and friend of Griffey Jr., said it’s a special moment in sports history.
When asked what the basketball version of the Griffeys’ famous back-to-back home runs would be, LeBron replied, “Probably two lobs." Source: ESPN
