In a recent episode of the "All the Smoke" podcast, former NBA player Mateen Cleaves shared how he came up with the nickname “Heaven Sent” for LeBron James. Cleaves explained that he thought of the name after watching LeBron play during his rookie season.

When asked about LeBron's first year, Cleaves said, "It was different. I gave him the nickname Heaven Sent because he was so good right from the start. I thought, 'He can't be that good.' But then, practicing with him, I realized he was the real deal. He had an amazing feel for the game and could do anything he wanted on the court."

Cleaves played in the NBA for six seasons, including one year with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he saw LeBron shine. While many basketball stars take years to reach their peak, LeBron made an immediate impact. Standing 6'9" and coming out of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, he drew comparisons to legends like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan.

After being drafted first overall in 2003, LeBron hit the ground running, averaging 20.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.5 rebounds in his rookie season. He won the Rookie of the Year award, just beating out Carmelo Anthony. Although the Cavaliers did not make the playoffs that year, it was clear they had found a gem in LeBron.

Since then, LeBron has had an incredible career, winning four championships and four MVP awards, and being named an All-Star 20 times. As he begins his 22nd season, he remains one of the top players in the league, continuing to inspire awe in his teammates and fans alike.

LeBron's impact on the Los Angeles Lakers has been significant, especially in the post-Kobe Bryant era. His consistency and talent reinforce why many consider him one of the greatest players in NBA history.
