NBA To Investigate 76ers Over Joel Embiid’s Playing Plan

The NBA is looking into how the Philadelphia 76ers are handling star player Joel Embiid’s return, according to a report. Embiid is missing the team's first three games, including their season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The league's new player participation rules may be part of the investigation. These rules, introduced last year, require teams to manage star players’ playing time carefully. Teams are expected to:
- Have no more than one star player sit out a game.
- Make star players available for nationally televised games.
- Balance rest days for players between home and away games.
- Avoid long-term rest periods that could affect the competition.

Teams breaking these rules face fines starting at $100,000 and increasing with each violation.

Exceptions are made for injuries, personal reasons, or limits on playing back-to-back games. Embiid, 30, has been recovering from knee surgery and told reporters he may never play back-to-back games again.

While the Sixers say Embiid is following a recovery plan, his absence has raised questions since he played in the Olympics this summer and helped Team USA win a gold medal. The NBA is curious why one of the league’s best players is missing the season opener. Source: CBS Sports
