During the 2024 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors decided not to draft Bronny James out of respect for his father, LeBron James' wishes.

The Warriors had the 52nd pick, with Bronny still available, but they passed on the 19-year-old guard. Instead, they chose Quinten Post, a 7-foot center. According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Warriors liked Bronny’s skills but wanted to honor LeBron’s preferences.

The Los Angeles Lakers later picked Bronny, making NBA history by having a father and son in the league at the same time. Lakers star Anthony Davis spoke about how much this means to LeBron, calling it a rare and special experience.

Bronny’s journey hasn’t been easy. In 2023, he suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice at USC, later being diagnosed with a heart condition. Despite a tough freshman year at USC, where he averaged 4.8 points per game, his upcoming debut with the Lakers alongside his dad will be a moment fans won’t forget.

The Warriors' decision not to draft him played a part in making that father-son moment possible.
