Alex Pereira is upset after Jon Jones moved ahead of him in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings. Jones jumped to No. 2 after his big win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, pushing Pereira down to No. 3. The change has caused some tension, but Pereira’s complaint isn’t about being knocked down in the rankings—it’s about how it happened.
The UFC rankings have caused some controversy lately, with UFC President Dana White criticizing the ranking system and its inconsistent updates. Pereira, the light heavyweight champion, posted on Instagram about the situation. He added a "1" to Jon Jones’ ranking and a "2" to Islam Makhachev, the current No. 1 fighter, saying, "With this change, I would be already happy."
Despite the ranking shake-up, Pereira has shown respect for Jones, and Jones has expressed interest in fighting Pereira, which has excited fans. However, UFC President Dana White isn’t fully on board with the idea of a Jones vs. Pereira fight just yet. He’s more focused on the rankings, calling the panel that decides them “clowns” and suggesting that technology, like AI, could help fix the system.

Interestingly, later that day, the UFC announced a new partnership with IBM to use AI during events for real-time statistics, though it wasn’t with Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta as White had suggested.
