The Los Angeles Lakers are on fire, winning five straight games to improve to 9-4 this season. On Saturday night, they beat the New Orleans Pelicans 104-99, despite dealing with injuries that have forced other players to step up.
One of those players is rookie Dalton Knecht, who had a breakout game against the Pelicans. Starting for the second straight game, the rookie scored 27 points, showing why the Lakers picked him in the first round of the draft.
With Rui Hachimura and Cam Reddish sidelined, Knecht stepped into the spotlight and helped secure the win. Lakers star Anthony Davis praised the rookie but also admitted he gets frustrated when Knecht doesn’t shoot enough.

“Every time he shoots the ball, we think it’s going in,” Davis said. “That’s why we get so frustrated and upset when he doesn’t shoot. He’s a great player.”
Davis led the Lakers with 31 points, while Knecht was right behind him, hitting 10 of 17 shots, including 5 of 10 from three-point range. Knecht also contributed seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
The Lakers are now tied for third in the Western Conference with the Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns. After two road wins, they return to Los Angeles for a three-game homestand, starting Tuesday against the Utah Jazz.
Knecht’s performance is giving the Lakers even more hope for a deep playoff run this season. Source
