Ben Affleck recently opened up about the 2003 movie Gigli, calling it “the most famous bomb in history.” Even though he received a big paycheck for the film, the experience doesn't sit well with him today.

In an interview with Deadline, Affleck, now 52, and his longtime friend and collaborator, Matt Damon, 54, talked about the business of filmmaking and their production company, Artists Equity. They shared thoughts on how actors are paid compared to others who work on movies.

Affleck explained how he earned a lot for his role in Gigli, a comedy where he starred alongside Jennifer Lopez. However, the movie did not perform well, and the studio lost money. "That doesn’t sit right with me," Affleck said. He mentioned that it feels unfair when people work hard on a film but don't share in its success or failure.

Affleck and Damon founded Artists Equity with a goal to create fair deals in the film industry. Affleck shared that they want to make sure everyone who works on a film has a fair chance to benefit, whether the movie is a hit or not.

Currently, Artists Equity has produced Small Things Like These, a drama starring Cillian Murphy. They’re also working on an upcoming sports movie called Unstoppable, featuring Jennifer Lopez.

Affleck, who is going through a divorce with Lopez, praised her performance in Unstoppable, calling it "terrific" in his Deadline interview. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival recently, where Lopez and Damon attended to support the project.

Looking back, Affleck noted that Gigli, directed by Martin Brest, received harsh reviews and didn’t do well at the box office. In a 2022 interview, he reflected that while the movie was a “famous bomb,” very few people actually saw it. He also mentioned that his relationship with Lopez at the time helped sell magazines, but the studio assumed people wanted to see them together in a romantic comedy, which may not have been the right move.

Affleck said that despite Gigli's poor performance, his connection with Lopez was a meaningful part of his life. Source
