Francis Ngannou’s coach, Eric Nicksick, has shared advice with Tom Aspinall on how to potentially defeat Jon Jones in their rumored UFC heavyweight unification fight.
Jones recently defended his heavyweight title at UFC 309 with a stunning spinning back kick knockout of Stipe Miocic. Meanwhile, Aspinall holds the interim heavyweight belt after knocking out Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295.
Nicksick, who trains fighters like Ngannou, isn’t Aspinall’s coach but has still discussed strategies with him. He believes Aspinall’s unique skills could give him a real chance to become the first fighter to officially beat Jones.

Speaking to The Schmo, Nicksick highlighted Aspinall’s footwork and fight IQ. He said Aspinall’s ability to switch stances and adapt in the heavyweight division is rare.
“You can’t just stay in Jon’s range and let him control the fight,” Nicksick said. “You have to be aggressive and not let him dictate the pace.”
Nicksick also praised Aspinall for understanding the risks of the heavyweight division and for constantly trying to exploit his opponents’ weaknesses.
Aspinall recently revealed on his YouTube channel that negotiations are underway for a 2025 showdown with Jones.
“Yeah, we’re in talks right now,” Aspinall said. “I’ll be ready whenever they give me a date. Until then, I’m staying in the gym and improving.”
Jones has hinted at preferring to fight Alex Pereira, but he’s reportedly open to facing Aspinall if the price is right. UFC President Dana White has said this could become one of the biggest fights in UFC history.
Fans now await confirmation of what could be a monumental clash between two of the best heavyweights in the sport. Source
