Jennifer Lopez, the famous singer and actress, spoke out against a recent rally held by Donald Trump at Madison Square Garden. Campaigning with Vice President Kamala Harris in Nevada, Lopez said the rally had offended “every Latino in this country.”
At Trump’s event, a comedian made a joke about Puerto Rico, calling it a “floating island of garbage.” Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, and both of Lopez’s parents are from there. The comment has sparked anger, especially among Puerto Ricans.
During her speech in Las Vegas, Lopez said, “It wasn’t just Puerto Ricans who were offended that day. It was every Latino in this country, it was humanity and anyone of decent character.”

Harris’s visit to Nevada is part of her campaign’s push in key battleground states. To reach more voters, Harris’s team has brought in big names, from Stevie Wonder to actors from the Marvel movies. Many, like Lopez, are speaking out more as the election nears.
Lopez, almost in tears, told the crowd, “We should be emotional. We should be upset. We should be scared and outraged. Our pain matters. We matter. Your voice and your vote matter.”
Other Puerto Rican celebrities have also been vocal. Latin music star Bad Bunny shared support for Puerto Rico on social media, and reggaeton singer Nicky Jam, who had once appeared with Trump, withdrew his support for the former president, calling for respect for Puerto Rico.
In response to the rally joke, Trump’s campaign said it did not reflect the views of Trump or the campaign. Trump’s team has also pointed to a separate remark made by President Joe Biden, which some saw as negative toward Trump supporters. Biden’s team clarified, saying he was speaking about the comedian’s language, not Trump’s followers.
Meanwhile, Harris spoke about how Trump “promotes hate and division” and how he would likely bring back policies that separate migrant families if re-elected.
Lopez emphasized that Harris understands immigrant families’ dreams, adding that women have the power to change the election. Harris also responded to Trump’s recent statement that he would “protect” women, saying his comment showed he doesn’t respect women’s rights to make choices for themselves. This, she said, is shown by his past Supreme Court appointments, which led to overturning abortion rights under Roe v. Wade.
Polls suggest this election could see a big difference in support between men and women, with women more likely to support Harris and men leaning toward Trump. Harris continues to speak out, saying, “Trump doesn’t respect the freedom or intelligence of women to make decisions about their own lives.” Source: CNN
