UFC heavyweight champ Jon Jones is firing back at critics who say he’s dodging a fight with top contender Tom Aspinall.
Jones, a legendary UFC fighter, is scheduled to face Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in Madison Square Garden next Saturday. He had hinted that this fight might be his last, but he recently suggested he might stick around for one more bout – though he doesn’t seem interested in facing Aspinall. Instead, Jones is looking for a high-profile opponent who could further build his legacy.
Jones made it clear in recent interviews that he’s not planning on fighting Aspinall after UFC 309. He dismissed the British interim champ, saying Aspinall hasn’t done enough in the sport yet to make it worth his while.

“He’s just not interesting to me,” Jones said in an interview. “He hasn’t really built a legacy. I’ve been around forever, and he’s only recently joined the UFC. Who has he beaten? Just an older Andrei Arlovski. Facing him does nothing for my legacy.”
Jones added that fighters like Alex Pereira, who has beaten top names and held titles, interest him much more than Aspinall.
After his comments, fans were quick to accuse Jones of “ducking” Aspinall, especially since Aspinall plans to be ringside for the Jones vs. Miocic fight. During a recent livestream, Jones noticed fans calling him a "duck," which didn’t seem to bother him.

“People call me a duck, a chicken, a GOAT – whatever,” he said. “I’m not in high school anymore. I’m chasing my dreams and doing what’s best for me.”
Meanwhile, Aspinall is trying to focus on his own career. In a recent interview, he called Jones “strange and unpredictable” but insisted he respects Jones’ achievements, despite their recent back-and-forth.
“If I can beat Jon Jones, that would be huge for my career,” Aspinall said. “But if I do fight him, I don’t want anyone saying he was ‘too old’ or ‘past his prime.’ If he’s the best, then let’s keep that same energy if I win.”
For now, it’s unclear if this potential matchup will ever happen, but fans are eager to see if Jones will accept Aspinall’s challenge. Source
