Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif is in the news again after fresh questions about her eligibility to compete in women’s boxing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
A French magazine, Le Correspondant, recently claimed to have seen a leaked medical report about the Algerian boxer, but the BBC could not confirm this report.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has defended Khelif’s right to compete in the women’s category, calling the magazine’s report “unverified.” A spokesperson for the IOC added that Khelif is now planning to take legal action over these latest claims, saying they feel saddened by the abuse Khelif has received.

Khelif, 25, won the women’s welterweight gold at the Paris Olympics. She had previously been disqualified from the 2023 World Championships due to gender eligibility concerns. Those tests were conducted by the International Boxing Association (IBA), which the IOC later removed as the sport’s governing body because of issues with integrity and governance.
The IBA had previously ruled Khelif ineligible, stating that participants in women’s competitions must have XX chromosomes. The IOC disagreed with the IBA’s testing methods, taking over the boxing events at Paris 2024 and allowing Khelif to compete.
After her Olympic win, Khelif said she had been the target of "bullying" and insisted she is fully qualified to compete in women’s boxing. "I am a woman like any other," she said, emphasizing her eligibility.
The IOC confirmed that all athletes, including Khelif, met the necessary eligibility requirements for the boxing competition in Paris. Source: BBC
