In a surprising turn of events, Team Chinese Taipei defeated Team Japan 4-0 in the final of the 2024 Premier12 tournament, claiming their first-ever title in the prestigious international baseball competition. The game was held at the famous Tokyo Dome.

Shohei Ohtani, one of baseball’s biggest stars, took to Instagram to acknowledge Chinese Taipei's win. He shared a post from the Premier12 tournament’s official Instagram, celebrating the team’s achievement.

In the final, Chinese Taipei took control of the game with two home runs in the fifth inning. Chia-Cheng Lin hit a solo home run, and Chieh-Hsien Chen followed up with a three-run shot. Despite strong pitching from both teams, the game remained scoreless for eight innings before Taipei's offense broke through.

Chinese Taipei reached the final after finishing second in Pool B, which they co-hosted with Japan. Although they had lost to Japan in both the first and second rounds, they bounced back in the final to secure the win.

Ohtani, who has a special connection to Taiwan, has shown his support for the sport there. His historic 50th home run ball, which marked his entrance into the 50-50 club, is now part of an exhibition at Taipei Tower. The "Dreams Fly High" exhibit, which includes baseball memorabilia, aims to inspire young athletes and grow the sport in Taiwan.

Though Ohtani’s Team Japan was defeated, his gesture highlights his humility and his desire to support baseball worldwide, showing appreciation for talent from all over the globe. Source
