Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has been named the 2024 Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter, his fourth straight time winning the award.
Ohtani previously won the honor from 2021-2023 with the Los Angeles Angels. This year, his first with the Dodgers, he continued his dominance at the plate and helped the team to an incredible season.
The 30-year-old slugger hit 54 home runs, drove in 130 runs, and smashed 38 doubles. He batted .310 with an on-base percentage of .390 and a slugging percentage of .646. Ohtani also made history, becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season.

His performance helped the Dodgers lead the National League in home runs and rank second in total runs scored. Ohtani’s 1.036 OPS was the best in the National League and second overall in MLB, just behind Aaron Judge of the Yankees.
While Ohtani cooled off a bit during the postseason, he still contributed with 10 RBIs in 16 games. He also had key hits as the Dodgers defeated the Yankees in five games to win their eighth World Series title.

After signing a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract to join the Dodgers, Ohtani has already exceeded expectations. He is expected to return to pitching in 2025 after recovering from surgery but will remain a force as one of baseball’s best hitters.
Ohtani now trails only Hall of Famers David Ortiz (eight wins) and Edgar Martinez (five) for the most Outstanding DH awards in MLB history. Source
